Can’t help but notice that lately news (online/papers/tv) everywhere have been splashed with the findings of people around the world, particularly poorer Asian countries, have harbored syndicates which deal in the selling of kidneys. [Gosh that sentence was long
]
Now, back to my serious reporting of this issue. What exactly are the causes for such syndicates to have sprung? (note its “are”)
While money is definitely intuitive in being a reason, there are definitely other causes which makes this dealing attractive. Firstly, its not till recently that Singaporean knew of such markets existing. Elsewhere, perhaps little enforcement and lack of seriousness by the governments have created comfortable markets for the selling of human organs.
What’s more cruel is the fact that those who “sell” their organs in these poor and illiterate communities are usually victims themselves. They are usually tricked into selling their organs or cheated by earning lesser then peanuts as reward for losing one organ.
A doctor in India had proved this point by simply removing kidneys of his patients which are admitted into hospital due to other problems. He was caught and subsequently a huge racket on the “kidney selling market” finally came to light.
Here in Singapore, we’re no different as such a market exists, no matter how small. This guy have been ill for quite some time and his enormous wealth had almost allowed him to relive his life in receiving fresh kidney from young Indonesians. The case is still in progress.
Watch your back!
