In my post earlier, I had wrote about how the increase in the number of ‘collapse’ during training has surfaced exponentially over the months. A very unprecedented shock occurred on Thursday when another serviceman, this time a regular, collapsed during his Officer Cadet jungle training in Brunei.
The Defence Ministry has since declared a three-day halt to all physical and endurance training activities from 12-14 June follows the death of two servicemen in training within two days. 2 men in 2 days. Thats quite a lot to swallow; given that our population is always in the shortage. I wonder what and how plus who are leading these investigations. Are they from Mindef themselves? Would it be wiser to open it up to a 3rd party? Of course I know that the sensitivity of this SAF has to be protected but that goes the same for the sons and brothers of the citizens. While suspension of the training for 3 days mean nothing, it is definitely crucial that the relevant ministry report on how these situations can be avoided and prevented from ever reoccurring.
My condolences to the families.
